Exmoor Classic Car Museum contents sold

This 1898 Phébus 2¾ bhp motor tricycle sold at the Bonhams Beaulieu sale last weekend for £28,750.

The extremely rare machine belonged to the Exmoor Classic Car Museum, the entire contents of which went up for sale on Saturday 8th September. The complete collection of 10 cars and 13 motorcycles all sold, totalling £667,128.

The Museum, based in Porlock, Somerset was the retirement project of Stephen Johns an entrepreneur who ran a pyjama manufacturing business for 45 years before moving to the West Country and setting up a museum to house the collection he had amassed over the years.

Other motorcycles that sold on the day from outside the collection included a 1926 Douglas 348cc EW, which sold for £9,200; a 1922 Scott 532cc Standard Tourer, for £9,430; and a 1924 Triumph 550cc SD Motorcycle and sidecar, which sold for £11,500.
