This is what happened when an American firm decided it could enhance the exotic Bimota DB7R-.
The DB7R Diavolo Rosso is the first bike with a load-bearing carbon-fibre frame and swing arm to be available to the general public.
Like the DB7R it has a 1099cc Ducati 1098 motor, but it weighs 164kg and produces a claimed 164bhp.
Besides performance it also has a string of interesting extras, including integrated GPS, which overlays bike telemetry with circuit maps to help the rider improve.
The Diavolo Rosso has been created by ArthaWorks Solutions of Long Beach, California and Elias Corey, the company’s president said the company will only make 10 bikes and each will cost $59,500 (£35,735).
Anyone lucky enough to be able to meet that price tag is offered the chance to experience Bimota's Private Client Program, invented and implemented by Corey.
It allows buyers to chose the Diavolo Rosso or if they have enough money to dream up there own Bimota and then watch as it is brought to flesh.
“We find out exactly what a customer wants from the bike and the buying experience, and then develop a program around that," Corey told America’s Motorcyclist Magazine.
"I present five to seven design proposals. We go over component choices and what kind of experience they want. Would they like the bike delivered to their home, or would they like to go to Italy for a day on the track, see the factory, have lunch with the founder of the company and stay in a 17th century castle? We build the entire program and custom-tailor it for them.
"If they'd like, we sit down in a boardroom with an espresso or a glass of champagne and talk about what they like about Bimota. We had a customer who said he loved the bikes back when they were red and white but couldn't afford one. We delivered a DB7 that looks like it came straight out of the '80s."
