80mpg and 140bhp from new concept hybrid

This new concept bike by Russian Igor Chack, 26, is the latest in a line of innovative ideas based on hybrid power – where electric motors are used alongside petrol engines.

The Izh-1 was inspired by the 1929 Soviet bike of the same name, made by the company that produces Kalashnikov rifles.

The electric motor sits inside the rear wheel, with a 850cc V-Twin engine in the conventional position. Unconventionally, 50% of it will be made from heat resistant plastic.

Other futuristic ideas are magnetic brakes (with a hydraulic back-up system), a front fork which acts as a crumple zone and night vision kit.
