BMW custom concept confirmed for 2013 launch

BMW have confirmed at the Milan Show that their new rumoured ‘custom concept’ will be making it’s debut in 2013.

The bike, based on a R1200, wasn’t on display at the show, but a statement by BMW boss Stephen Schaller confirmed that the bike would be released to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the German company.

Schaller said the bike will ‘not only mark our past, but also looks to the future. While I can’t reveal this bike’s name today, I can say that it will be powered by an air-cooled boxer engine.’

MCN got some exclusive spy shots of the prototype in testing earlier this year at the German manufacturer’s track.

What we can see from the bike being tested here is a fairly classic and retro styled roadster with conventional upside down forks with what looks like the single headlight unit and clocks from the recently updated R1200R.

BMW has kept the design both simple and easy to develop at the lowest possible cost by raiding the wide range of parts in the BMW range.

The Boxer engine is the current model used in the R1200GS, R1200RT and R1200R models; as is the swingarm. The forks look like those from the R1200R along with the front light and clocks (although these may change before production).
