Biker loses leg but doesn't notice

A motorcyclist didn’t realise his leg had been severed after he hit a safety barrier and rode on for more than a mile, leaving his friend to pick up the missing limb.

According to police reports, the unnamed 54-year-old office worker was out riding with a group of friends in Nishi Ward, Hamamatsu near Tokyo yesterday and misjudged a bend, hitting the central barrier.

According to local police, as reported in the Mainichi Shimbun, Hamamatsu newspaper, the rider suffered: “Excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction.”

The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been too badly crushed in the collision for it to be reattached, the paper added.
