Triumph Street Triple owners cash in on second hand market

Riders who were lucky enough to get their hands on the Triumph Street Triple early are cashing-in by selling their machines for a premium.

Motorcycles are coming up for sale with few miles, and a higher price tag than Triumph’s new on the road price of £5,349.

Peter Verrinder, PR and Marketing Manager for Powerbronze aftermarket products had to pay over the ‘on the road’ price for a Triumph Street Triple.

Verrinder said: “We needed a white model we could use for our R and D to produce new parts for the bike and to use as a show bike.

“We couldn’t get our hands on a new one until July, and we just can’t wait that long so I’ve bought one second hand for over £5,500, after haggling. I had no idea it would be so hard to get hold of the bike; current owners could make a killing.”

Other Triumph Street Triple motorcycles have been advertised for as much as £5,800 – more than £400 over the list price of a new Street Triple.

The premium for used Triumph Street Triples puts the bike into an exclusive league of machines that have been able to command more than the list price even for second hand examples.

Usually, only the most exotic and limited-production bikes gain entry – with the early Ducati 916 being a prime example, when limited production in 1993 and 1994 made them virtually unobtainable and pushed the values of used machines higher.

Ducati’s new 1098 also briefly commanded a premium, and the firm’s exclusive Desmosedici RR looks likely to do the same – with the first ever secondhand example available in BikeMart this week.
