Insurance claims refused because of modifications

1 of 1

Any modification to your bike could result in a theft claim being rejected and your insurance policy voided.

Leading motorcycle insurance underwriter Norwich Union would not rule out rejecting claims over modifications as minor as a non-standard spark plug or tyres. A major broker has said it wouldn’t record such minor modifications even if you did tell them.

The news came after Norwich Union rejected the theft claim of an MCN reader over 14 modifications ranging from a new spark plug cap to a replacement rear wheel, worth approximately £1,000.

We are now looking for motorcyclists who have had claims refused because of modifications to their motorcycles. Log in to www.motorcyclenews.com and add your comment to see who has been affected and how.

See what the industry has to say about modifications in this week’s MCN, available from Wednesday, October 31, 2007.
