Police admit new “workman’s van” speed camera broke rules

Police have admitted they should have told DVLA they had painted a white speed camera van plain blue.

Derbyshire Police previously claimed the requirement to notify DVLA of vehicle colour changes did not apply to the sneaky camera van because the new paintjob was “temporary”.

But in a new statement the force said: “The Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership has discussed the matter with the DVLA to seek clarification about the rules surrounding the notification regarding change of colour and the relevant amended paperwork has now been forwarded.”
