Triumph Thunderbird beats competition on price

Triumph has announced prices for the new 1600cc Thunderbird cruiser – the most important bike the firm has made in years as it takes on the American market.

The bike will go on sale in summer 2009 and will cost £9,499 for the non-ABS version and £10,099 with ABS. The first bikes are due to arrive in UK dealerships in mid July. 

Costs less than most of the competition

“We believe that the new Thunderbird represents excellent value for money,” says a Triumph spokesman.

“We recognise that we are operating in a tough economic climate but, thanks to the current exchange rates, we are able to offer our brand new Thunderbird for less than the price of the majority of our main competitors. Volume production starts next month and we have already taken hundreds of pre-orders, which is creating a big buzz at our Hinckley factory.”

All-new cruiser

The all-new cruiser is the fourth Triumph to wear the iconic Thunderbird tag. The first, introduced in 1950, was a groundbreaking 650cc parallel-twin that set new performance and handling standards of the day.

The name was briefly revived in the early ‘80s, before being applied to the very popular 900cc three-cylinder custom roadster between 1995 and 2004.
