Oh and by the way, if you've never seen any bikes with over 60,000 miles on them I don't know what planet you live on . . . otherwise you know nothing about bikes . . . I still have an old Honda XL and the last time I used it there were over 96,000miles on the clock . . . then again . . . I'm a commuting biker and a travelling biker not a cafe poseur or a saturday afternoon hero . . . .

Can't really compare the price with gasoline mate . . . . the way things are going, the price of gasoline will double within the next five to ten years and environmental tax and stuff like that will also increase . . . oh and incidentally, that's the quoted price . . . . remember LCD Televisions eight years ago??? Todayt they are less than a quarter of the price they were initially . . . just wait until somebody else starts making electric bikes . . . we'll get better range, faster machines, more variety and design innovations and the price will come down . . . with a bang probably . . . .

@bjacobs It's easy to compare the extra price with gasoline. However an electric bike doesn't need new glow plugs, no oil and oil filter changes, no valve adjustments ... no engine-related maintenance really. Factor those costs in, and the numbers will look different even if you would do all the maintenance yourself, nevermind adding a mechanic's working hours.

Also, right now you can't really compare it to a regular motorcycle. Any new technology will initially come at a higher cost. When people start switching to electric bikes on a larger scale, they won't be built by hand anymore and the prices will drop.

There's also the exclusivity of the thing. Whether or not that justifies the extra price is a personal matter. I like to compare the Mavizen to a Bimota Tesi. The main difference is that in this case the engine sets it apart from the rest of the motorcycles, not the front suspension.

Actually, I think Cedric Lynch (the inventor behind Agni motors) has an electric bike that's done over 100k miles. His bike was almost definitely much cheaper than the Mavizen is to buy, although top speed was something like 50 but you could get about 180 miles for 30p (15p at night rates) the way it was set up. Google "Cedric Lynch" and you should be able to find an interview on Daily Motion. Not that you'd want to be seen dead in his bike though!
