What we expect to see in 2010: Dainese D-Air Street

Airbag technology has been at the forefront of revolutionary products for the last couple of years, and if we’re led to believe the comments form Dainese we should be seeing the road D-Air Street at the end of next year.

Dainese has claimed this year that the D-Air Street is expected to be launched in 2011, meaning we should see the final product at the end of the year.

However, there have been a few spanners in the works with the D-Air Racing suit in 2009, namely Jorge Lorenzo’s suit not deflating in his Brno crash and then deploying in the final round at Valencia despite the 22-year old staying on the bike.

As Dainese technicians have explained to MCN, the Street version will be much more complex and has to be fine tuned a lot more than the track model.

So what are the chances of it being ready for the end of the year? We’re not sure.

And the promises of a 2011 launch could engage an interesting arms war between Dainese and close manufacturing giants Alpinestars who also have technicians working on a cordless airbag system as well.
