The new 696 Monster is Ducati’s most important bike, this is the bike that brings in the money and the sales, and thankfully it seems Ducati have got it spot on with the all new Monster. Thankfully they’ve not played around with the styling too much, and just improved the old bike as a package, in terms of engine performance and handling.

The cylinder head of the new Ducati 696 Monster is now very similar to the two valve 1100 Multistrada’s. Bore and stroke remain the same but Ducati have managed to squeeze out and extra 9% of power. Thankfully it’s not lost any of its character, and still sounds and feels like a Monster

The Ducati 696 Monster is still distinctively a Monster, and feels like the old bike on board, but it’s not an uncomfortable over stretch like the old bike. It still feels light and is easy to throw around. The understeer feeling of the old bike has been rectified and so has the poor ground clearance thanks to the new re-routed exhausts.

The Ducati 696 Monster’s clutch is feather light and comes as a slipper clutch as standard. The Brembo radial brakes up front are powerful but still progressive and ideal for novice riders. However, only the shock is adjustable and for the price we’d expect fully adjustable suspension.

As you’d expect from Ducati recently the level of finish on the Ducati 696 Monster is very high even on for a budget model. The engine has not changed too much and the old motor took a thrashing in its stride, as many engine actually ended up on race tracks. Keep the bike regularly serviced by a Ducati dealer and you shouldn’t have any problems.

This is the new Ducati 696 Monster’s only downfall really. Yes, it’s cheap for a Ducati, you’re buying into a quality brand and fashionable brand, but the competition is considerably cheaper, bikes like the ER6 and SV650. If you are buying with your heart then you’ll go for the Italian but if money is tight you may as well go for one of the cheaper Japanese bikes. Find a Ducati Monster 696 for sale.

is not a 696 and is the 796 as it has a single sided swingarm, careful if you spend lots of money on it and its the wrong one.

I purchased a 696+ with the yellow skins and 14T sprocket with the Termignoni racing package. I bought it used in the US and got a terrific deal (60% of what new would have cost for a one and a half year old bike). I like that it is very nimble, grunty, agile, economical and brakes well. It has tons of character (unlike my previous FZ6) and very usable power. I can ride for hours with the touring seat and the riding position is actually very comfortable. Amazing for a bike that is the size of a 250cc bike! I highly recommend it especially if most of your riding is around town and suburbs.

5 trips to dealer so far , let down by ducati spares availability, build quality CR*P , Never ever darken the ducati dealer door unless you want endless trouble,

This was my first big bike and i have to say im more than happy with it. The bike has fantastic handling and the all new LCD display. I haven't been let down by the bike either. Go and see the alternatives then go and see this. The differences are in the build quality and finish. For me it was between this bike and the triumph street triple. I chose this for two reasons one because its nice and two because Triumph were not offering 0% finance like Ducati were. After owning the bike for a few months now im pleased as punch with it.

MCN are quoting the wrong information in their specs for the 696 monster The Ducati monster 696 has 80 BHP @ 9000rpm not 67.5 as shown in your technical data. Also your torque figure that MCN have quoted is 44ftLb when the actual torque is 50.6ftLb

80 HP in the U.S.

Per http://www.ducati.com/bikes/monster/696/tech_spec.do it has 80 HP or 58.8kW in the U.S. making a fast bike by all measures considering its weight of 355 LB or 161 kg. It is a relatively simple exotic bike for the U.S. in the land of Harleys and Jap crotch rockets. The MSRP of $8995 in the U.S. is a bargain by U.S. standards. The size should make it a very good urban machine which is 90% of riding here. The limiting factor here is the limited dealers in the U.S. As an example the closest dealer here in Lafayette, Louisiana is New Orleans, Louisiana. While on the other hand there are Harley, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha dealers everywhere. Exotic motorcycles and cars are not real common in the U.S. outside of major cities. That is a built in problem for service.

Monster 696

Just had a go on one of these at the weekend. I ride an 06 R6 so was expecting it to be slow, rough and wobbly! COULDN'T be more wrong. This bike is an absolute HOOT! Fast (up to 90), light, handles brilliantly and sounds the dogs twitchers! If you want a bike for hammering round the twisty's - this is the one! Oh and 67bhp - my a$$!

Must be an error. Here in Germany it has 74HP, which fits nicely in our 78HP insurance class (read: cheap). The real power should be anything up to 80 (so says Ducati).
