Ducati Hypermotard (2013-current)

£9,695

821cc, 110bhp, 125mph, Insurance group 17

Replacing the original air-cooled 1100 and 796 versions, this second-generation Hypermotard has an 8v, liquid-cooled motor, a more forgiving riding position, ABS, traction control and electronic riding modes. Ducati are hoping these changes will broaden the appeal of their bad boy take on the supermoto. There are a few minor niggles, like a built-in blind spot in the mirrors and ...

Ducati Hypermotard 1100 (2007-2012)

£7,750

1078cc, 90bhp, 123mph, Insurance group 17

Ducati has come up with a genuinely and refreshingly different motorcycle with the Ducati Hypermotard. It offers all the fun of a conventional supermoto motorcycle with its light and agile handling, and a pathological penchant for wheelies, but thanks to its big n’smooth 1078cc V-twin engine, comfy seat and roomy riding position the Ducati Hypermotard is practical too. Rieju SMX 125 (1997-current)

£2,799

124cc, 14.5bhp, 65mph, Insurance group 5

The Rieju SMX 125 and 50 models are Supermoto styled bikes aimed at novices, with the 125 featuring a 14bhp Yamaha engine, Paioli suspension and a tall seat height. The 50cc SMX Pro version also has trick bits like Galfer wavy dics and a chromed exhaust system. Just that bit more stylish than the average learner bike.

Sherco 50 (2003-current)

£2,250

50cc, 8bhp, 30mph, Insurance group 1

A tiny, Minarelli-engined, screamer that’s collected a hatful of 50cc supermoto titles, including multiple French National crowns. It handles superbly, tuning parts are relatively easy to come by and, most importantly, it’s easy to de-restrict. Providing you’ve got the appropriate licence, of course. Ahem.

Husqvarna SM610 (2005-current)

£5,899

576cc, 52bhp, 115mph, Insurance group 10

The Husqvarna SM610  is a ‘real’ supermoto for the road. Forget Japanese look-alikes such as the MT-03 or FMX650. Husqvarna is one of a handful of European manufacturers making far lighter, more powerful machines most of which are for race only. The Husqvarna SM610 has been civilised somewhat to make a banzai if impractical road bike.
