Like the preceding Explorer adventure bike, Triumph’s new tourer, the Trophy,  has probably swept to the top of its class first time out by, if not being shiningly the best at anything, then certainly being the best tourer overall. MV Agusta Brutale 920 (2011 to current)

The 920 is the new entry-level MV Agusta Brutale which, despite lashings of Italian flair and 130bhp performance, costs the same as a Yamaha FZ1 at £9999. It has a number of changes aimed at keeping the cost down over the bigger capacity 990R and 1090R bigger brother.

Kawasaki KR-1S (1990-1992)

Kawasaki’s KR-1S was the quickest mass-produced, 250 two-stroke ever (139mph being recorded in a 1990 speed test), being quicker than both Suzuki’s RGV and even Aprilia’s later (but RGV-powered) RS250. On the downside it came with slightly questionable reliability and handling that could tank slap you into casualty. Dangerous, but hugely addictive.
