Camier took the double win at Snetterton
Snetterton BSB: Camier makes it two out of two at Snetterton
21 June 2009 17:05
Leon Camier made it two wins from two today when he comfortably won the second British Superbike race at Snetterton. The Airwaves Yamaha rider hit the front on the fifth lap and was never headed as he opened up a gap over team-mate James Ellison and he ran out winner by over three seconds with the team securing their fourth 1-2 of the year.
It was Stuart Easton who again led in the early stages before being overhauled by Josh Brookes but Camier, fifth on the opening lap, was steadily working his way through the pack and overhauled Brookes at the chicane. A series of fast laps saw him gradually ease away and with Ellison taking over in second, the duo were over three seconds clear at half race distance.
Easton, who missed a gear on the fourth lap, dropped back to fourth and couldn’t do anything about Brookes who took his second third place on the day, his third in a row, to confirm his season his firmly up and running.
Behind the first quartet, there was a terrific three-way dice going on between Ian Lowry, Julien da Costa and John Laverty and it was the latter, on the Buildbase Kawasaki, who got the place for not only his best result of the year but also his best ever BSB result.
Da Costa took sixth, his best result of the year also, with Lowry holding on to seventh from a rapidly closing Glen Richards, the HM Plant Honda rider another to make a poor start. Karl Harris and Jason O’Halloran completed the top ten with Chris Walker, third on the second lap, eventually finishing 17th after a moment at Riches saw him take an excursion on to the grass.
