Donington Park BSB: Rutter brings four sets of leathers!

Michael Rutter, who has split from Rob McElnea’s Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha team, has brought four sets of leathers with him to Donington Park in case disaster hits another rider and he is asked to stand in for the BSB races.

“They’re from almost every team I’ve ever ridden for, including HM Plant Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki,” said Rutter, who is now rapidly organising his own Suzuki GSX-R1000 to ride in the TT in June.

But none of the top runners was considerate enough to bang himself up during practice and qualifying for this third round of the BSB series, and ‘The Blade,’ 37, was left to socialise and network.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever come to a meeting and felt completely lost, just watching from the sides,” he lamented.

Now Rutter is hoping to re-enter the BSB series with the Suzuki once he has completed the Superbike and Senior TT races.

The son of seven-times TT winner Tony Rutter, Michael has already won a TT race – the Junior in 1998 – and amassed four second places and four third places on the Isle of Man.
