Jorge Lorenzo satisfied with single tyre rule

MotoGP runner-up Jorge Lorenzo reckons the single tyre rule was a big benefit for world championship racing in 2009.

Lorenzo, who won four races on board the factory Fiat Yamaha YZR-M1 last season, said that while tyre development had suffered with only Bridgestone involved in the premier class series, the rule change had helped make the racing more entertaining.

He also said the single tyre rule, which saw Michelin out of MotoGP after a long and successful history, helped ensure each rider received equal treatment throughout the season.

The Spaniard, who will again partner nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi in 2010, said:

“For the performance and evolution of the tyres it was worse because Bridgestone was alone for the development. But in terms of competition and for the show it was better because every rider had the same possibility with tyres. And for me I gained the consistency I didn’t have last year.”
