Yamaha is not anticipating a Ferrari swoop for Valentino Rossi to make a sensational move to Formula One next year. The Italian was linked with a big-money move to F1 for the umpteenth time late last month after Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo hinted the legendary car racing manufacturer would run a third car in 2010. Rossi has one more year on his current Yamaha contract and Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis said he fully expected the eight-times world champion to honour his commitment. Asked if he could see any possibility whereby Yamaha might be willing to release Rossi, Jarvis told MCN: “I think it is very difficult. It’s not an option we’re considering and I hope he will not ask the question.” Would Yamaha’s decision be swayed by the possibility of Ferrari offering a lucrative buyout of Rossi’s contract? “I think that is highly unlikely. I hope we don’t get the question, “added Jarvis, who insisted the latest speculation linking Rossi to Ferrari would not advance talks over a possible Yamaha new deal into 2011 “We’ll listen to his plan, whatever that is for 2011. We haven’t even started to talk to Valentino about 2011 and I think the ball is in his court. Sooner or later Valentino will retire. I don’t know if that is when he’s 31, 32 or 33, but at some moment he will take a decision on his future and at that moment I’m sure he will tell us at the earliest opportunity to frankly discuss what his plans are.”
