Colin Edwards ends 2009 on the toilet

Colin Edwards had a miserable ending to a brilliant 2009 after the Texan had to quit the Valencia test earlier this week with a severe virus.

The 35-year-old, who claimed a stunning fifth place in this year’s championship, needed lengthy treatment after he was struck by a high temperature, vomiting and low blood pressure.

He told MCN: “I woke up at 5am and both ends started firing on all cylinders. I was on the toilet and then looking in the toilet. I felt like I had no energy and I was just dead.

“I knew then I wasn’t going to be able to ride. They checked my blood pressure and it was 90 over 65, which is pretty low. I just feel dead and my head and stomach were all over the place.

“The only laps I could do were from my motorhome bed to the toilet.”
