Hayate eye Moto2 move

Hayate’s hopes of retaining its MotoGP status in 2010 appear doomed.

A frantic fund-raising mission to find a £5m budget to lease Yamaha YZR-M1 engines and build and develop a new chassis has stalled.

And now Hayate, a team born out of the remnants of Kawasaki’s factory MotoGP squad earlier this season, will focus its attention on fielding a two-rider effort in the new 600cc four-stroke Moto2 class as an alternative option.

Hayate boss Andrea Dosoli said: “At this moment we have not been able to close the budget for MotoGP, though we have not given up yet. It is more logical to think about a cheaper project like Moto2.

“We have requested two places for Moto2 and this is the more likely option. We believe that staying in MotoGP would be better but at this moment it is not so easy. We’re quite close to having the budget for Moto2 but we are far away from having enough to run in MotoGP.”

Hayate were granted two places on the Moto2 entry list released in Estoril last weekend and Dosoli confirmed they would run a chassis built by Swiss engineer Eskil Suter, who previously supplied chassis and other components to Kawasaki’s factory MotoGP effort.
