World titles dedicated to Shoya Tomizawa

Jorge Lorenzo and Toni Elias both dedicated the world titles they claimed in Sepang last weekend to late Japanese star Shoya Tomizawa.

Tomizawa was fatally injured in a horrific accident during the Misano Moto2 race in early September.

The 19-year-old was a hugely popular rider in the paddock and several moving tributes were paid to him at the Motorland Aragon and Twin Ring Motegi.

Spaniard Lorenzo, who captured his first MotoGP world title with third place in Malaysia last Sunday, said:

“I want to to dedicate this title to Shoya. He was a really brave rider with a lot of talent and in a short time he had proven to be one of the top riders in Moto2. But overall he was a really good guy and everybody misses him. I couldn’t dedicate the victory to him in Aragon, but I can now dedicate this world title.”

Elias also dedicated his title to Tomizawa after he created history by winning the inaugural Moto2 crown in Sepang with a fourth place.

He said: “This title is for my parents, my sister, all my friends and everyone who has worked with me during my career. It is also for the people who are not here, like my uncle, who died four years ago, and for Tomizawa.”
