Sepang MotoGP: MotoGP race cancelled after Simoncelli crash

The Sepang MotoGP race has been cancelled after an incident on the second lap involving Marco Simoncelli, Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

Gresini Honda rider Marco Simoncelli lost the front at turn 11 and tried to save the the bike with his knee, at the same time running back across the track.

Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi – both behind Simoncelli – had nowhere to go, with both riders colliding with the rider and Simoncelli’s helmet coming off during the accident.

The race was originally due to be restarted, but was cancelled after race direction felt it could not continue while Simoncelli was undergoing treatment at the medical centre.

Tech 3 Yamaha rider Edwards dislocated his shoulder in the incident.
