Paul Bird holds MotoGP talks at Motorland Aragon

Paul Bird has held ‘positive’ talks with MotoGP chief executive Carmelo Ezpeleta at the Motorland Aragon track in Spain today (Friday), with the high profile British team owner contemplating a premier class move in 2012, MCN can exclusively reveal.

Bird flew into Spain for a meeting with Ezpeleta about the possibility of the former Kawasaki World Superbike boss running an independent squad in the new 1000cc MotoGP class next season.

Bird is currently considering his future options having lost the contract to continue running Kawasaki’s factory WSB effort.

Bird, who is also looking at running a Kawasaki British superbike squad for Shane Byrne and Stuart Easton in 2012, told MCN: “It is everybody’s dream to be involved in MotoGP and I think we can make it happen. Dorna and IRTA are keen to make it happen so it is looking pretty good. I think we could do it with one-rider for 2012 and then maybe look at two for the second year.”

Bird hasn’t yet decided which 1000cc engine he would use but a strong contender is Aprilia’s RSV4 motor.
