Catalunya MotoGP: Lorenzo on top after first day

Factory Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo set the fastest time of the first day at Catalunya, with a 1.42’099 in the second free practice session in sunny conditions.

San Carlo Gresini Honda rider Alvaro Bautista was the surprise of the day, setting the second fastest time in the afternoon session. The Spaniard has so far struggled to adapt to the 1000cc Honda after last year on the 800cc Suzuki GSV-R.

The third fastest time was set by Brit Cal Crutchlow, just over a tenth quicker than team-mate Andrea Dovizioso in fourth. Ben Spies improved on recent results with the sixth fastest time behind Hector Barbera.

Casey Stoner was the only rider not to improve on his time from the morning session, finishing the day in 10th. Valentino Rossi struggled and was the slowest prototype rider in 12th position.
