Moto3: Maverick Vinales claims home pole position in Catalunya

Spaniard Maverick Vinales will start his home Moto3 race tomorrow from pole position after topping the qualifying timesheets in scorching hot conditions at the Catalunya track near Barcelona.

A lap of 1.52.160 secured Vinales his second successive pole of 2012 by 0.268s, with Malaysian Zulfhami Khairuddin claiming a brilliant second on the grid.

French GP winner Louis Rossi completed the front row with a best time of 1.52.603 denying world championship leader Sandro Cortese a top three spot by just 0.026s.

British rider Danny Kent will start the fifth round of the 2012 world championship from 14th on his Red Bull KTM machine.

The teenager clocked a best time of 1.53.346 to finish just over a second off pole position.

Danny Webb faces another tough race tomorrow after qualifying his struggling Mahindra machine down in a lowly 31st.

The Kent rider was 3.008s off pole position having set a best time of 1.55.168.
