Valentino Rossi critical of Marc Marquez

Valentino Rossi criticised new Moto2 world champion Marc Marquez after the hard riding Spaniard was involved in more controversy on the opening day of practice for the final round of 2012 in Valencia this afternoon.

Marquez collided with Simone Corsi in the second free practice session in an incident that resulted in the Italian rider falling heavily.

Marquez immediately went to see Corsi to apologise but he was hauled before Race Direction and he will have to start his final race in Moto2 from the back of the grid having been found guilty of riding in an irresponsible manner causing danger to another rider.

He didn’t appeal.

Nine-times world champion Rossi had viewed the incident on TV and he said that Marquez’s riding was unnecessarily aggressive at such an early stage of the weekend.

The factory Ducati rider told MCN: “I see the incident and I think that Marquez makes a big mistake. It is not the time on Friday afternoon to be entering with another rider that is slower than you in difficult conditions and being very strong like this.

“For sure Marquez doesn’t want Corsi to crash but for me he risks too much to do this on Friday afternoon. It is a very fast part of the track and the risk to get hurt is high and I think Corsi is a bit angry with Marquez. I think he needs to stay more quiet, especially when it is not necessary like this.”

Marquez will replace Casey Stoner in the Repsol Honda squad in 2013 and he will make his long awaited RC213V debut in Valencia next week.

Asked whether the 125GP and Moto2 world champion would need to adopt a calmer approach in the premier class next season, Rossi added: “I like Marquez a lot. His style, his skill and his aggression is good to follow and he is a talented guy.

“But sometimes it is a bit too much and I hope with MotoGP it is different. With MotoGP the speed is higher and I think it is more dangerous, so I think naturally he will be more quiet.”
