Jerez Moto2: Rabat untouchable for win, Redding second

Esteve Rabat rode an untouchable race to finish off a perfect weekend at his home race to wake victory in dominant form.

Leading from the line, he took victory by over four seconds from Brit Scott Redding, who rode a lonely race ahead of the battle for third.

Rabat took off from his pole position, pulling out almost a second in the opening laps, blowing away the old lap record by over a second.

Behind Redding, the battle for third between Espargaro and Nakagami was the fight of the race, as the Kalex riders changed places multiple times on the last lap before a mistake from the Japanese rider allowed Espargaro.

The day wasn’t as fortunate for the other Brits, however, with Danny Kent 27th after remounting following a crash, while Kyle Smith was forced to retire.

Redding said afterwards “I’m happy with second. I knew it would be hard with Rabat – I knew he had a little bit over me, and he pulled away just a little bit lap by lap. But I knew that I could ride a good race to second too.”
