Suzuki boosted by new entry concessions in 2015

Suzuki has admitted that special concessions given to new entries for 2015 will be a massive boost to help its bid to threaten Honda and Yamaha’s domination of MotoGP.

Suzuk plans to return to MotoGP next year as an official Factory entry, but it won’t have to race under restrictions like a 20-litre fuel tank or be limited to five engines with no in-season development.

In a bid to help new entries obtain a competitive level more quicker, Suzuki can use 12 engines with immunity from the engine development freeze, 24 litres of fuel and the same tyre allocation and free testing currently permitted for Open class entries.

The concessions will be for 2015 only, with a common set of rules set to be in place for 2016 now a universal switch to controlled electronics has finally been approved.

Suzuki hasn’t raced in MotoGP since the end of 2011 and is without a world championship success since Kenny Roberts Junior won the crown 14 years ago.

The Japanese factory is continuing its preparations for 2015 with post race tests in Austin and Argentina and team boss Davide Brivio told MCN: “There are no Open and Factory rules now for us. Suzuki will enter as a Factory and we will have the concessions that come with not having won a race the year before.

“If we enter next year we will be a factory and have our own software but with the concessions. It is clear this could make our preparations easier for next year but I’m also happy that from 2016 everyone will be under the same rule. This is the reason we are going racing, to compete on the same level as everyone else.”
