Brno test: Crutchlow “It’s chaos out there!”

Cal Crutchlow continued to impress by lapping on World Supersport race pace first time out at the Brno circuit, despite riding on a track day and having to contend with a track full of slower riders.

The WSS points leader arrived in Brno still nursing his broken right ankle sustained in Free Practice at Donington 12 days ago. The factory Yamaha man showed no side effects of his injury and remains confident that he has gone some way in learning the long Brno track ahead of the tenth round of the championship at the Czech track on 24th to 26th July.

Speaking exclusively to MCN from Brno, Crutchlow said:
“It’s chaos. Leon (Haslam Stiggy Honda) is out there on a Superbike doing 2m 01’s, I’m out there and on the pace and there are some guys on track doing 2m 30s at best! You come up on them so fast it’s crazy. Because there are so many people out on track you do one fast lap and then two really slow ones, you can’t get into any sort of rhythm. As a result it’s a test but not a proper test. It means I’ll know where I’m going when I go out for Free Practice on Friday, but we haven’t been able to actually test anything on the bike.”

“I like the track though, but it’s hard because experience is really important here. It’s bumpy in a few areas but it’s good. I’m not sure how well our bike will go against the Honda’s, we’ll just come here and do our best.”

Crutchlow and his Yamaha World Supersport team now head to Imola in Italy for two further days of testing next week.
