Silverstone BSB: Camier crowned champion and takes race one win

1 of 1

Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier has been crowned the 2009 BSB champion after finishing first, ahead of team-mate James Ellison in the first superbike race at Silverstone.

Ellison got the holeshot and led the race up until the 18th lap, when Camier made his move.

Camier didn’t make the best of starts and had to battle past HM Plant Honda rider Josh Brookes and Stuart Easton before he could catch up to Ellison.

Camier said: “I tried a couple of passes but they just didn’t work but I knew I had to keep on trying. I need to thank everyone who has supported me and hopefully I can finish race two on a high with another win before we go to Oulton Park.”

Relentless by TAS Suzuki rider Alastair Seeley was having a good race on the new EVO-spec Suzuki GSX-R1000, but he had to retire due to a technical problem.
