Brno MotoGP: Casey Stoner likens title bid to Lewis Hamilton’s F1 challenge

Casey Stoner reckons his quest for glory in the 2007 MotoGP world championship is similar to new Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton’s bid to dethrone Fernando Alonso. 

British driver Lewis Hamilton has taken Formula One by storm in his rookie year with McLaren, while Casey Stoner has also caused a stir in MotoGP this season with six wins in 11 races.
He now lead Valentino Rossi by 44-points going into this weekend’s Czech Republic GP in Brno.

“I think it is similar but Hamilton is in his first season of F1, whereas this is my second. In F1 I expected you needed to be experienced to be able to race at the front but Hamilton has proved that with the experience that he has had in the past that he can do a great job in F1.

“I’m in my second season so I have a small advantage over him, but for sure he has done an unbelievable job this year.”

Asked what he thought about their prospective world title bids on two and four wheels, Stoner said: “For me it is the same amount of difficulty for both of us.

“But you cannot really compare between F1 and MotoGP points. We both have a lot of other strong competitors who are very fast. I have Rossi and (Dani) Pedrosa, he has (Kimi) Raikkonen, (Felipe) Massa and (Fernando) Alonso.”
