Former team boss Bertocchi under investigation after Alto Evolution truck hijacking

Italian police are reported to have former team boss Sergio Bertocchi under investigation following the theft and kidnapping of the Alto Evolution team truck and driver.

The truck, which has subsequently been recovered, was hijacked as the team returned from Silverstone race two weeks ago.

Following efforts by both Belgium and Italian police the gang that carried out the hijacking were intercepted last week after they tried to hijack another Alto Evolution vehicle as it collected parts from the team’s warehouse.

At the time Alto Evolution team members were adamant Bertocchi was involved and now the former WSB team manger is under Police investigation.

The Italian also had the dubious honour of being on the front cover of an Italian regional newspaper in Trieste, the “Il Piccolo di Trieste” following the incident, but it is still unclear if he has been officially charged.

In the meantime it has been confirmed there is no way the team will race in Misano this weekend because the team truck and bikes are part of the evidence for the case and therefore can not be released.

It’s a bitter blow for the team’s riders Karl Muggeridge and Josh Brookes who will have to wait until the Brno round in July before they get back on track.
