British GP: Post race reaction: Chris Vermeulen

1 of 1

After winning in the wet at Le Mans many weren’t surprised to see Chris Vermeulen on the podium at Donington this weekend.

The Aussie set a stunning pace in the closing stages of the race, closing the gap to Valentino Rossi and depriving him a step on the podium.

Here is what he thought of his race performance.

”The start wasn’t too bad. I started from 12th position and that wasn’t easy but I got through quite quickly – I think I was up to about third at one point up behind Colin and he was behind Dani [Pedrosa] and I was quite comfortable.

”I was having a little trouble with my helmet. I was getting quite hot inside and the sweat was making my visor fog so I started playing around with it a bit and a couple of guys came past and I still couldn’t get it clear.

”When the rain stopped I opened my visor up and it cleared up a lot and that’s when I could start going quick again.

”In the end I actually saw Colin and thought I might be able to get him but he was a bit too quick.”
