Dutch MotoGP: Toni Elias breaks leg in Assen MotoGP practice crash

1 of 1

Spaniard Toni Elias has suffered more injury misery at the Assen circuit this morning after he broke his left femur in a crash in the opening MotoGP free practice session.

The Gresini Honda rider lost the front of his RC212V but seemed to be sliding harmlessly towards the gravel trap on his back on a long strip of bitumen.

But as Toni Elias hit the gravel his left leg has sickeningly twisted and as he sat up he immediately signalled to trackside medical staff for a stretcher.

Early reports have confirmed that the 2006 Estoril MotoGP winner has definitely broken his left femur but medical examinations are continuing in the Assen circuit medical centre.

Toni Elias is certain to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines and today’s crash added to his run of bad luck in Holland.

He missed last year’s Assen MotoGP when he broke and dislocated his left shoulder in a crash.
