Phillip Island MotoGP: Simoncelli wins 250GP race

Metis Gilera rider Marco Simoncelli has continued his dominance of the 250GP series with a win at Phillip Island.

Simoncelli – currently leading the championship – had opened up a slight gap from Alvaro Bautista during the race but Bautista managed to put in some fast laps and catch up with the Italian.

The two then enjoyed a scrap which saw Bautista eventually lose out when he nearly touched Simoncelli while trying to go up the inside.

Behind the leading pair KTM riders Mika Kallio and Julian Simon were enjoying a battle of their own.

When it came to the drag to the finish line Simon lead from the exit of the final corner, but the power of Kallio’s factory-spec KTM meant he just edged in front of Simon to get on to the final step of the podium.

Behind them Alex Debon, Robbie Locatelli and Yuki Takahashi enjoyed a scrap for fifth place, with Debon finishing fifth ahead of Locatelli and Takahashi respectively.
