World Superbikes: Max Biaggi to race in Valencia

Injured Italian Max Biaggi has confirmed this morning that he will brave the pain of his broken left wrist to try and compete in this weekend’s Valencia World Superbike clash.

The Sterilgarda Ducati rider broke his left wrist in a 170mph crash in race two at the Phillip Island round last month, and has been undergoing daily treatment to speed up his recovery.

Biaggi, who trails series leader Troy Bayliss by a massive 52-points after he left Australian with no points, said his objective will be to ride in Valencia and collect as many points as possible.

In a statement released this morning, Biaggi said: “I have decided to go to Valencia to try to race. We are aware of the difficulties that we will meet but I will grit my teeth and I will have confidence in the total assistance of the Mobile Clinic.

“My objective is to race and to pick up the highest number of possible points. Today is exactly one month since my accident in Australia and today I will remove the cast from the arm.

“But to have all movement would have been impossible for Valencia. I am working every day for the rehabilitation and to decrease the strong pains to the damaged ligaments. It will be hard but I will try!”
