MotoGP: Younger generation starting to takeover says Andrea Dovizioso

The impressive performances of rookies like Jorge Lorenzo and James Toseland is the signal that a new generation is closing in on becoming the dominant force in MotoGP.

That’s the view of JIR Scot Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso, who himself has made a brilliant start to his MotoGP career.

Having finished fourth on his debut in Qatar, Dovizioso was in the battle for the top five at the last race in Jerez when he lost in a dramatic final corner.

Factory Yamaha rider Lorenzo has claimed pole positions and podiums in both races, while double World Superbike champion Toseland has been in the top six in his first two races.

And Dovizioso believes that early season form from the rookies, coupled with Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa’s victories in Qatar and Jerez respectively, shows that the younger generation is ready to take over from the likes of Valentino Rossi.

“I think now the new generation is emerging stronger.

“Valentino is still very strong but I think the new generation is getting close to taking over.

“Something has changed because Casey is now the fastest rider and very strong.

Jorge has improved a lot and Dani had some problems in the tests but he is also very, very strong, “said Dovizioso.
