Knockhill British Superbikes: John Laverty injury update

1 of 1

MCN caught up with North West 200 Ducati Team Owner John Hackett following the injury to his Daily Star Cup rider, John Laverty,

Laverty highsided at the exceptionally fast left-hander, Hislop’s on the run down to the Hairpin.

Narrowly missing a set of stacked bails, the Buildbase NW200 Ducati rider ploughed into the tyre wall, followed by his bike.

Luckily the 25-year old escaped with concussion and three broken ribs.

Hackett told MCN: “John was in third gear at the time and just gave it a little too much.

“John had said it was one corner on the track where he felt like he was losing out, and he just wanted to push on a bit.

“But fair play to him, he held his hands up and took the full blame.

“That’s a great thing about John – he’s straight talking and makes no excuses.

“But now he’s in a lot of pain.”

For father Mickey Laverty it was a familiar sight to see one of his boys go down at that very corner.

Two years ago Eugene suffered a similar fate in a Supersport session.
“We though Eugene was really badly hurt because he ran straight into the back of a back marker.

“He was midway round the corner and hadn’t seen him and just couldn’t quite get round him.

“That day he broke his hand, so both boys can certainly take a knock.”

John Laverty will now miss the rest of this weekend’s activities due to being knocked out.
