Colin Edwards pens new Tech 3 Yamaha deal

Texan Colin Edwards will announce tomorrow on the eve of his home race in Laguna Seca that he has signed a new one-year deal with the Tech 3 Yamaha squad.

Negotiations reached a successful conclusion at last weekend’s rain-hit German GP at the Sachsenring, and an official announcement will be made tomorrow (Thursday).

It is understood that Edwards also has an option in his new deal for the 2010 MotoGP world championship, even though his initial plan was to quit the premier class and return to race in America at the end of the current campaign.

Edwards is currently enjoying his best MotoGP season having claimed two podiums and a pole position for Herve Poncharal’s squad. He is currently locked in a fight with rookie’s Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso for fourth in the championship.
Edwards was linked with Kawasaki’s factory MotoGP squad, plus a switch back to World Superbikes with Ducati to replace former foe Troy Bayliss.

Edwards’ deal completes the Tech 3 line-up for 2009, with British rider James Toseland exercising an option back in April at the Portuguese GP in Estoril.

It was at the same race that Poncharal signed a new two-year deal with Yamaha.
