USA World Superbike: Troy Corser sets pace in final qualifying

Yamaha Italia rider Troy Corser took control of the World Superbike grid in second qualifying with an impressive 1min 49.224secs lap time in Salt Lake City this morning.

Corser has been on front row pace from the opening session on Friday and was able to find a good base setting very quickly and constantly improve the performance of his Yamaha R1 in each session.

Championship leader Troy Bayliss finished up in second position although he was unable to better his lap time from Friday’s opening qualifying session.

Kawasaki’s Regis Laconi had a strong session, lapping with Carlos Checa. The Frenchman finished third fastest with Checa rounding off the provisional front row in fourth.

Noriyuki Haga had a disastrous morning after he tangled with Ten Kate Honda rider Kenan Sofuoglu. Haga has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone, but still sits in 16th position meaning he qualifies for this afternoon’s Superpole session.

Max Biaggi upped his pace to go to 13th and qualify for Superpole whilst riders including Makoto Tamada, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Gregorio Lavilla failed to make the cut.
