MCN Fleet: Old school lube for Street Twin

1 of 1

Many of my recent long-term test bikes have had one thing in common – belt drive – so I wasn’t looking forward to returning to regular chain maintenance. I’ve never been a huge fan of chain lube from an aerosol. Its stickiness collects grit from the road, forms a grinding paste, balls up and flings all over the bike.

Heavyweight gear oil is an effective alternative and if applied carefully doesn’t fling off. If it does it can be wiped away with a cloth. I keep an oil can of the stuff on the floor next to where I park the bike and every time I get off I just apply a few drops. After riding the chain is warm and the oil penetrates instantly.
