Triumph issues recall on range of bikes

Triumph has issued a recall to have clutch cables replaced on many of its models.

The Trophy is the only modern Triumph model to escape the recall, which affects bikes fitted with cables made by one manufacturer.

Triumph has since changed its cable supplier, but has issued the recall after discovering cables had failed on two bikes.

Bikes to be recalled are the TT600, Speed Triple, Daytona 955i (not the reshaped 2001 bike), Sprint RS, Tiger and Sprint ST made between June 1999 and June 2001. A total of 2135 bikes are affected by the recall.

Owners who need to take action have been written to, according to the firm.

Marketing boss Bruno Tagliaferri said: ” The recall only covers bikes with cables from this particular manufacturer, and there’s a clearly-defined VIN sequence. Only people with bikes within that sequence have been written to.

” It’s a safety recall and the onus is on the customer to take the bike back to his dealer for a check. The dealer will decide if the cable needs replacing. ”
