Freddie Spencer at Mallory this weekend

The Festival of 1000 bikes is a rare chance to see Freddie Spencer, the only to man to win 250GP and 500GP championships in the same year, riding an NSR500 on track this weekend.

‘Fast Freddie’ will be riding a Honda NSR500 around the Mallory circuit (the classic circuit, without any of the chicanes) in the Past Masters parade. MCN spoke to him earlier this week:

“I always look forward to coming over to any event in Europe – especially England! The fans are always very knowledgeable and supportive. Last fall the show in Stafford was great and I know the event at Mallory will be the same!

“I am looking forward to riding the 500cc 3 cylinder GP bike again – the bike I will be riding is the same one I rode at the Bikers Classic event at Spa in 2008 and it ran great then.

“I would like to say to the fans who will be coming to the event we are there for you and I want you to know how much I have appreciated your support. So I look forward to seeing all of you at Mallory Park and I hope you enjoy the show!”

Spencer will be riding on Sunday afternoon. Mallory Park is situated in Leicestershire just a few miles from the M1 – to see more click here

And here’s a video of the man in action, in a bizarre car versus bike versus race bike challenge from the ‘80s. You may have seen it before, but it’s always worth a watch!
