CB1000R riders support When You Wish Upon A Star

1 of 1

Those of us with bike licences are lucky. The experience of riding a bike is unlike anything else in my opinion and something that everyone should be able to experience at some point in their life.

Imagine however that you were diagnosed with a terminal condition before you were even old enough to take your test. Imagine if you never lived to be that old.

A horrible thought, I’m sure you’ll agree, and a bit of a miserable start to this story, but hear me out and see how much better you feel at the end.

My name is Anthony and I’m one of the administrators of HondaCB1000R.com, the world’s first and largest Honda CB1000R owners club. I’m one of the lucky ones, and am relatively healthy and have a full UK bike licence. As a club we have decided this year to support When You Wish Upon A Star; a charity that makes dreams come true for terminally ill children.

We’re raising money by taking donations via our Just Giving page and we’re also auctioning off some gifts that have been donated by generous companies from around the world, including:

  • Dunlop
  • Doble Honda
  • Akrapovic
  • The Kompany
  • PDQ1
  • Beowulf Performance Products
  • Lightning Pass
  • Club Aprilia
  • BR Special Tuning
  • MH Racing
  • Calsport
  • Farnham Honda
  • Ride In Bike Tyres
  • Portsmouth Honda
  • TastyNuts.com
  • RBC Dexia
  • Performance Parts
  • Kriega
  • Hein Gericke

…and of course Motorcycle News and Honda.

Honda granted us a pair of VIP tickets for the BSB round at Mallory Park and you can probably imagine how the bidding went crazy. At £250 however we pulled the auction. We’re doing this for the benefit of the children that WYWUAS are supporting, and our charity coordinator, Clive, had spoken to WYWUAS to find out if any of their kids have wished for a VIP day at a bike racing event.

They came back to us with Cain, an 11 year old suffering with Cystic Fibrosis. The tickets were now his, and Honda very kindly supplied us with a few more so that his younger brother and their father could go, along with a medical team.

This is what our fund-raising is all about, and when I asked MCN if they could help us out I was over the moon when we were offered the chance to auction ‘a day as a road tester’. We hope to be able to auction this excellent opportunity for a sizeable donation to When You Wish Upon A Star and would like to thank MCN for this excellent donation to aid a great cause.

Although the bidding for this event is for HondaCB1000R.com members, I would encourage anyone who is interested to sign up to our site, whether you’re a CB1000R owner or not, and make a bid – click here for details.

We are also holding our annual summer meet on the Mallory Park weekend (June 26th to 27th) at the Hogs Head in Awsworth, near Nottingham where we hope to raise a bit more money and hit our target of £2,500 (10 times more than we raised in 2009) and would encourage any other CB1000R owners to come along, whether you’re a member or not.

The money that we raise may send a group of children to Lapland to see Santa this Christmas, take them swimming with dolphins or buy them essential medical supplies that they can’t afford. Tell me that’s not a great cause and well worth a donation, no matter how small.

How good is that?
