'Charge': the worst timed movie ever?

‘Charge’ is a new documentary following the electric bikes at the Isle of Man TT, and you can see the trailer below.

Narrated by Ewan McGregor and directed by Mark Neale – of ‘Faster’ (2003) fame – there’s no doubting the pedigree of its production, or the need for quality bike-flicks to drag motorcycling back into the mainstream.

But – worthy as it looks – could ‘Charge’ have been utterly gazumped by the phenomenally successful ‘TT3D: Closer to the Edge’? Lavished with universal acclaim and described by Murray Walker as “the finest film I’ve ever seen in my life”, it’s possibly the toughest act in motorcycling film history to follow.

Throw in the weight of scepticism stacked against electric technology – see pretty much every MCN comment thread or 0:57 in the trailer below for proof – and the road just gets rockier.

Could ‘Charge’ pull off a Mike Hailwood-esque shock victory? Or is 2011 just too small for two TT films?

What do you think?

‘Charge’ is due out later this year
