Amputee soldiers helped back into biking

A charity is helping soldiers who have lost limbs in Afghanistan get back into motorcycling.

Suzuki SV650s and Aprilia Manas have been adapted so amputees can ride them on a track.

The charity, run by serving soldiers, already offers injured veterans the chance to take part in motorsport.

Major James Cameron, Director of Mission Motorsport, said: “We now have a programme that takes amputees and disabled guys who thought they’d never be able to ride again and gets them back onto two wheels and riding motorbikes.”

One of the bikes has all the controls on one bar, enabling triple amputees to ride it.

Injured veterans are set to take part in a parade lap on the specially adapted machines before the Britcar 24-hour race at Silverstone on September 21.
