AGV bring Rossi’s head to Mugello

Don’t worry, the eight-time World Champion hasn’t been decapitated – this is the cast of Valentino Rossi’s head that AGV uses to custom build each of the Fiat Yamaha rider’s race helmets.

From the looks of the cast it was created around the year 2000 mark with Rossi having short hair and his long sideburns, and this model usually takes pride of place in the AGV R&D department.

It was created so that the AGV technicians could build each of Rossi’s helmet internals to perfectly fit his face without him having to come to the factory.

As you can see from the pictures, the cast is scanned into a computer programme. This programme then custom measures the face and relays the information to the machine that cuts the liner shapes.

That’s about as custom as it gets.

These pictures were taken from the AGV unit at the Italian Grand Prix at the weekend, obviously there to custom fit Rossi’s one-off design for the weekend that MCN exclusively revealed will be available later this year in the UK in a limited run of 300.
