Slight to race in UK

Aaron Slight will be racing a 500bhp V8 this year. No it’s not Moto GP gone mad, he’s on four wheels for the ASCAR oval racing series in the UK and Germany.

Slight is driving the TJ Motorsports Ford, under his traditional number 111. The American motor is capable of 220mph, and its rear wheel drive should make for some exciting action in the 18-round series split between Rockingham, Northants and the Lausitz Eurospeedway in Germany.

Last season, Slight tried out for the Peugeot BTCC team and was expected to drive for them in 2002. But the squad has withdrawn from touring cars.

The series will be shown on Channel 4 on Saturday mornings.
