Plater wins in Macau

Steve Plater triumphed in a record breaking Macau Grand Prix on Saturday (November 18), the 40th anniversary race, putting paid to Michael Rutter’s hopes of adding to his tally of wins.

Rutter had been aiming for a seventh win to become Macau’s most succesful racer with seven wins ahead of the six he continues to share with Ron Haslam after today’s defeat.

Plater passed Rutter’s Stobart Honda on the AIM Yamaha on lap four and stayed in front until the flag.

The lap record was broken four times in the race with Rutter ending up fastest with a new record of 2.27.588 at 92.75mph.

Britain secured all three podium positions with Ian Hutchinson taking another Stobart Honda to third.

Plater was delighted with his win, wheelieing across the line and laughing off a scarpe on his helmet and paint on his leathers after clipping a wall, saying “That’s what it takes to win Macau.”

The Supersport race was again dominated by MSS Discovery Kawasaki with

Scots Steve Allen and Callum Ramsay taking first and second in a repeat of last year’s result.

The Irish competitors Stephen Thompson from Crumlin and Martin Finnegan from Lusk had rotten luck.

A dead battery ended Thompson’s challenge on lap two and Finnegan was going well when the Solent

Scientific Honda expired on the last lap.
