Camier to race Aprilia at Magny Cours WSB

Newly-crowned BSB champion Leon Camier is aiming to race the factory Aprilia at this weekend’s WSB Magny Cours round, replacing the injured Shinya Nakano.

MCN understands that Camier and Aprilia talked on Monday to arrange the ride and the British star has received approval from Yamaha, GSE Racing team owner Darrell Healey and team boss Colin Wright to take the one-off ride – but the deal still has to be confirmed by Aprilia.

Wright told MCN: “It’s not really any of my business. He’s got our approval to do it but whether it happens or not is not up to us.”

Camier was unavailable for comment but has repeatedly stated that his target for next year is to become a factory WSB rider and this would appear an ideal opportunity to put himself in front of the WSB team bosses.

At the moment Camier’s worth, not just as the BSB champion, but as a rider who totally dominated the highly-competitive superbike series, is considerable but now he faces the tough challenge of living up to the standards set last weekend by Marco Simoncelli who finished on the podium in his debut meeting aboard the RSV4 – beating the teams number one rider Max Biaggi.
